Mike Veldhuis is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who works primarily with adults and values supporting clients from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. His ideal client is someone who senses that change is needed in their life but may feel uncertain about what that change looks like or how to begin. He finds meaning in helping individuals explore their lives with curiosity and clarity, develop insight into their challenges, and determine intentional next steps toward growth.

Mike has experience working with individuals facing a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, complex trauma, psychosis, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He believes that meaningful and lasting change occurs through a combination of insight and action. Therapy begins with developing a deeper understanding of the desired change and identifying the internal and external barriers that make change difficult. From there, Mike collaborates with clients to build practical foundations, structures, and steps that support sustainable progress.

In his work with substance use, Mike provides structured, accountability-focused individual therapy for adults who are struggling with alcohol or other substances. He understands that substance use often serves a functional purpose—helping individuals manage overwhelming emotions, trauma symptoms, stress, or disconnection. Rather than approaching treatment from a place of shame, Mike works with clients to build insight into patterns of use, identify triggers, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and develop realistic relapse prevention strategies. Whether a client is seeking abstinence, harm reduction, or continued support following inpatient or intensive treatment, Mike emphasizes honesty, follow-through, and measurable behavioral change. His approach balances direct feedback with compassion, helping clients build stability while addressing the underlying emotional and psychological drivers of substance use.

At the core of Mike’s work is a commitment to helping clients discover and live as their authentic selves. He strive to meet each person where they are, remaining flexible and responsive to individual needs while maintaining a strong therapeutic foundation rooted in trust and honesty. Clients can expect thoughtful, direct feedback, a strengths-based perspective, and compassionate support in identifying both personal resources and obstacles that may be standing in the way of their goals.
